Flight 1022

I grew up in New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment. As long as I can remember, the vast sky and cloud formations in the southwest have captivated me. When I moved to the Southeast region of the United States in 1989, what I missed the most was the open space and the New Mexican sky.

On July 4th, 2011, I boarded Delta Flight 1022 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. My destination was Atlanta, the city which was soon to be my new home. As the flight departed and we started to ascend I noticed that the cloud formations were especially impressive that afternoon.  When I realized that the show in the sky continued beyond the Sandia Mountains I took out my camera and photographed the clouds until I landed in Atlanta early evening. That afternoon, all the atmospheric elements came together to create the most breathtaking array of cloud formations I have ever seen in flight. This collection of photographs from Flight 1022 are my interpretation of the magic I witnessed in the sky the afternoon of July 4, 2011.
