Discovering Syros

In 2011 I traveled to Greece with my father to discover the country in which my Papou, my grandfather was born. After visiting relatives in Athens and various sites on the mainland, we boarded a ship and sailed off to Syros in the Cyclades islands. I spent four days in Ermoupoli, the capital of the Cyclades. It was in Ermoupoli that I had the opportunity to photograph the people of the island going about their daily routines. Life unfolds on the island at a leisurely pace. People took the time to enjoy their daily activities, whether it meant chatting with friends on the streets or at work, playing backgammon in a café, or merrymaking at night with fellow musicians in the Miaouli Square.
